In case you’re wondering who is publishing all this nonsense, my name is Joe Brockmeier. I’ve been writing on the web for more than 25 years now. Sometimes I have even managed to get paid for it. What a world.
This website / blog is a corner of the web I call home to publish thoughts on books, music, current events, not-so-current events, and whatever else I feel like throwing out onto the interwebs for other people to enjoy. Cat pictures, too.
If you’re more interested in open source topics, technology, and other more “professional” stuff, you’ll probably want to visit LWN.net where I work as an editor, or Dissociated Press which is my personal blog for such things. Many of the posts here once appeared on Dissociated Press when the domains were joined at the hip, but I decided it was time to separate the two when it was time to migrate off WordPress.com.
This site now runs on ClassicPress, a fork of WordPress that does not use the Gutenberg editor and is independent of all of the drama that’s impacting the WordPress project since September 2024. Many of the entries on the site have been migrated from self-hosted WordPress to WordPress.com and then ClassicPress, so there’s probably some breakage that’s happened in the meantime. Sorry about that. Feel free to drop me a note at jzb at this domain if you’d like to report any unreadable posts.
Thanks for visiting. Feel free to leave comments or ping me on Mastodon at @jzb@mastodon.social.
