Carsie Blanton and The Burning Hell have released a video for their song “Stafford Beer” that has a bit of a Sesame Street / Avenue Q vibe. She described it as a “Schoolhouse-Rock-does-dialectical-materialism video confection,” which also works.
The song’s title is a bit of a mystery to me, because it has little to do with the lyrics. You’d be forgiven for thinking the name of the song is “The Purpose of a System is What it Does”. Here’s a peek at some of the lyrics:
It’s simpler than you might think because
The purpose of a system is what it doesThe news is a system
To make me think
That the things that I think
Are the same things that everyone thinksMy bank is a system
That borrows money from me
Interest free
To invest in an oil companyIt’s simpler than you might think because
The purpose of a system is what it doesThe law is a system
To make me think I have rights
Cus I’m white and well-funded
and don’t try to fight
Carsie is touring right now, I highly recommend getting tix if she’s nearby. She’s playing in Asheville in October. Can’t wait.
